How the Service Works

How does your sitting service work?

We match your family with a sitter who is the best fit for your child's needs. Please read an overview of how our service works.

How are your sitters different than a regular sitting service?

We are dedicated to serving children with special needs. As such, we take unprecedented care in selecting, screening, and training our sitters. Please learn how our service is different.

How do you define “children with special needs?”

Our sitters will serve any child who could benefit from more patience, understanding and compassion. Whether it be mild cases of ADHD and general behavior issues, to severe cases of Autism and Cerebral Palsy, our definition encompasses a wide range of children.

Do your sitters conduct diagnoses or specific therapies?

No, we're sorry, but that's just not their role while serving as a sitter. While many of our sitters are experts in their fields, they're being hired to watch and engage your children.

How many children will one sitter serve?

The ideal amount is one to two children. With that said, our sitters will watch up to four children at a time. If you have more than one child with special needs, please contact us to discuss whether multiple sitters may be needed.

Do you require a certain length of sitting appointment?

Yes, we request sitting appointments of four hours or more. Exceptions may apply, so if you have special circumstances, please contact us.

When are your sitters available?

We have sitters available during the day, evening and weekend. For the best availability, please request a sitter as far in advance as possible. With that said, we will do our best to accommodate last-minute needs.

Am I assigned a sitter?

Yes, our goal is to connect you with the best sitter possible for your family's needs. We match you with a sitter based on your child's need level, the sitter's experience level, and the sitter's availability.

Can I request a sitter?

We understand how important consistency is for a child with special needs. If you've used one of our sitters in the past, you are welcome to request that sitter again. We will do our best to accommodate that request.

Why should I use your service, rather than contacting a sitter directly?

As parents of a child with special needs, we know how difficult it is to find qualified sitters for children with special needs. We've invested in a training curriculum and a thoughtful selection process, so families with children with special needs have access to empathetic and experienced sitters.

When you choose a qualified sitter through Specialized Sitters, you allow us to serve families across metro Denver. When you sidestep our service, you put an important resource at risk for other families who have children with special needs. We appreciate your consideration.

Pricing and Payments

How much do you charge for a sitter?

We've taken great care in pricing our sitting services. Pricing is based on your child's level of needs, as well as on the number of children being watched. Please view our pricing.

Is there a sign-up fee to use your service?

No, there is no sign-up fee.

Is there a membership fee?

There is a small monthly membership fee of $9.99 per month. After three months, you may cancel your membership at any time. This small monthly fee ensures that all sitters have undergone a rigorous background check. In addition, it partially offsets both initial and continuing education training costs for our sitters.

What are the terms of membership?

Our minimum membership is three months. Following three months, you may continue on a month-to-month basis or cancel at any time.

Unlike other Denver sitting services, we do not require a one-year membership.

How do we pay for our sitter?

Your sitter will give you an invoice at the end of your sitting appointment. Please sign the invoice and return it to your sitter. Once we receive the signed invoice from your sitter, we will charge your credit card the appropriate amount and send you a receipt via email.

What are your tipping policies? / Should we give our sitter a gratuity?

Tips are appreciated, but not required. If you wish to tip your sitter, please provide the tip at the conclusion of your sitting appointment or note it on the invoice.
