We believe that every child with special needs deserves a special sitter. That's why we put unparalleled care into finding, selecting and developing extraordinary sitters who are dedicated to kids with special needs.
If you've struggled to find a qualified sitter, you know that the average sitter isn't equipped to handle the behaviors and emotions of a child with special needs. The good news is, you don't have to settle for an average sitter again.
Advanced Training and Continuing Education
We're committed to helping our sitters strengthen their skills, so they can better serve your children. With extensive input from Tracy Stackhouse at Developmental FX, we've developed a one-of-a-kind training program for all of our sitters.
This leading program includes:
A skills-based education module. Designed to enhance our sitters' overall special needs knowledge, the module covers behavioral causes, redirection techniques, proper engagement, and general special needs information.
Ongoing development every three months. Our sitters are required to attend continuing education classes at Denver developmental centers. Held every three months, these classes introduce our sitters to new interaction techniques, games and activities. They also give our sitters an outlet for asking questions.
When selecting sitters, we look for empathetic individuals who choose to work with children with special needs as their profession. Our Denver sitters include:
- Special needs teachers
- Paraprofessionals from local school systems
- Certified occupational therapists
- Certified occupational therapy assistants (COTAs) and COTA students
- Master's students in occupational therapy
- Master's students in early childhood development
These professionals bring an abundance of patience, understanding and compassion to their interaction with each child. It's in their DNA. You can step away knowing that your child will be treated with dignity.
Careful Background Checks and Pre-Employment
To better protect children with special needs, we only hire sitters from professions and degree programs in which we can concretely verify their experience. All of our sitter candidates are prescreened and reference checked. They've completed CPR and first aid certification, as well as criminal background checks.
In addition, before sitters can work for us, they must pass a pre-employment exam. This help ensures that each of our sitters has a consistent blueprint for how to handle common issues.
